Matching Grants for Violence Prevention Programs - Local Funding Partnerships, an initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is a matching grants program that connects the Foundation with local grantmakers to fund community-based projects to improve health care for vulnerable populations. The program’s special solicitation, “Peaceful Pathways: Reducing Exposure to Violence, helps diversity-focused grantmakers fund projects to reduce violence in traditionally underserved communities that are defined by race, ethnicity, tribe, gender, sexual identity, or rural/frontier location. Applicants must be nominated by a funder that is principally concerned with the community to be served. This solicitation will provide matching grants of between $50,000 and $200,000 for up to eight new projects that employ community strengths and assets to reduce exposure to violence.  Visit the Foundation’s website to download the Call for Proposals.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites research grant applications that will advance the science of alcohol prevention and treatment through evaluations of multicomponent community programs, with a specific focus on adolescents and young adults. It seeks proposals to test the relative effectiveness and costs of:(1) Community based programs comprised of environmental interventions to reduce underage and binge drinking among young adults and related harmful behaviors; (2) Community based programs that increase alcohol screening, brief intervention, and access to formal treatment for adolescents and young adults in multiple community settings (e.g. primary care, emergency departments, school- and work-based settings, and web-based venues); and (3) Programs that combine both strategies. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R01 Research Project award mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NIAAA has available $1 million for this announcement and expects that one or two awards will be made.Budgets of approximately $ 500,000 direct costs per year and time periods up to five years may be requested. SYNOPSIS:  The sponsors have established the AMA Scholarship Program to assist the social sector nonprofit organizations in developing the strong leaders today who will lead the organizations of the future.

OBJECTIVES:  The AMA Scholarship is designed to provide nonprofit leaders with an opportunity to step out of the day-to-day, interact with peers across the sectors and develop practical skills they can apply immediately within their organizations. During the entire scholarship year, the recipients will be provided with intellectual resources, opportunities, and discounts designed to enhance leadership effectiveness and support excellence in organizational and personal performance.

The AMA Scholarship covers:

  • One management education and professional development seminar offered by American Management Association in the United States;
  • One year individual member benefits including access to members-only website, subscriptions to e-newsletters and journals, and discount pricing on all other AMA products and services;
  • One year membership with the Leader to Leader Institute including subscription to Leader to Leader Journal and discounts on the Institute's publications and services.

ELIGIBILITY
The AMA Scholarship Program is available to a range of nonprofit organizations representing the social sector across the United States.  To be eligible for an AMA Scholarship, a candidate must: Be an employee of a nonprofit charitable organization classified as a 501(c)(3) public charity by the Internal Revenue Service or operate under the fiscal sponsorship of a 501(c)(3). The Scholarship is not available to employees of organizations other than 501(c)(3), for-profit corporations, or individuals; Have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the social sector; and Receive nomination from the Executive Director/CEO of their sponsoring organization (if you are the ED/CEO, then nomination from the Board leadership).
